Gentle tooth extractions for a healthier smile

When a tooth has decayed too much, the majority of it has broken off, or a crack has propagated to the root of the tooth, the tooth may be deemed un-restorable and an extraction is indicated. Many people fear extractions but we ensure that your extractions are as fast and as painless as possible.
For every extraction that we do, we always place a bone graft and tissue membrane in the socket to ensure proper healing and to prepare the site for an implant in the future, if the patient decides to get one.
An oral surgeon performs complex surgical procedures, one of which are wisdom teeth extractions. If your wisdom teeth are causing you pain, growing in a horizontal position, causing food traps, or pushing against other teeth, it is best to schedule a consultation with our team to determine if it needs to be extracted. Patients always fear getting their wisdom teeth taken out, but our specialist ensures that he is as gentle and efficient as possible

Why tooth extractions are sometimes necessary

Tooth extractions are often recommended to address severe decay, damage, overcrowding, or impacted wisdom teeth. Removing problematic teeth can prevent pain, infection, and damage to surrounding teeth or gums. At ME Dental, we focus on preserving your oral health and ensuring that extractions are only performed when absolutely necessary for your long-term well-being.

Frequently asked questions

Does a tooth extraction hurt?
Before we start the procedure, Dr. Moran always begin with providing you with local anesthesia to get the extraction site numb. This ensures you will feel no sharp pain throughout the procedure. You will feel some pressure while the tooth is being removed but Dr. Moran and her team is always available to ensure your experience is comfortable and pain-free.
How long does it take for my tooth extraction site to heal?
It usually takes about a few weeks to fully close, but it varies patient to patient.
What to eat after tooth extraction?
We recommend eating only soft foods and avoid chewing on the side. It is important to avoid any grainy foods (chia seeds, grains, rice) that can get stuck in the extraction socket. Avoid any extremely hot food or drinks for the first few days after the procedure as this can prolong healing.

What to avoid after tooth extraction?
The most important thing to avoid after an extraction is creating any negative pressure in your mouth. This means that you have to avoid sucking on straws, spitting, and most importantly, smoking. Doing these can cause dry socket which can lead to extreme pain

What is a dry tooth socket after tooth extraction?
After a tooth is removed, a blood clot forms in the extraction socket. This blood clot is necessary to promote healing. If that blood clot is removed from the socket, this leads to dry socket and healing is prolonged and extreme pain is felt. Dry socket can be caused by smoking, sipping on straws, sucking on anything, or not taking care of the site after the procedure.
When you do feel pain 4-5 days after the extraction, it is important to call us immediately. We place dry socket paste in the site and this helps with the pain and promotes healing.

What is the bone graft and membrane for?
The bone graft and membrane are necessary to prepare the area for an implant. When a tooth is removed, that is not the wisdom tooth, the patient and Dr. Moran want to replace the tooth with an implant. To ensure there is enough bone for the implant placement, bone graft and membrane are necessary to place in the extraction site at the time of extraction to fill the socket with bone.
